Disability Employment Services (DES)
DES is the Australian Government’s main disability employment service. It can help you find work and keep a job in open employment. Open employment is where people with and without disabilities work together. Workers are paid more money in open employment.
The Australian Government wants as many people as possible to be working, so it offers different Programs of Support to help you prepare for, find and keep a job.
Many people with intellectual disability meet the eligibility requirements for the Disability Support Pension (DSP), and don’t need to complete a Program of Support before they can get the DSP.
However, if you’re interested in working, you will usually be offered support from one of two types of Programs of Support:
If you’re a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participant, you can also ask for employment supports in your NDIS plan.
